Hidden skyline
hidden skyline - causeways (download) FULL ALBUM
Having recently returned to Massachusetts from a 15-year hiatus in Austin, TX, Matt Hebert (Ware River Club, Haunt, Scary Beard) brought home a new batch of songs that felt right together. Hebert had been collaborating with Joel Stroetzel (Killswitch Engage, Brothers Born) on a second Scary Beard record and the two began working together to bring Causeways to life.
Causeways features Ware River Club bandmates Don McAulay on Drums, and multi-instrumentalist Bob Hennessy. Jacob Rosazza (Lux Deluxe) puts down bass tracks and Miranda Brown (AC Newman, Crooked Fingers) provides backup Vocals, both of whom worked on Hebert’s previous solo record, “Where the Heart Beats Slow”. Long-time collaborator, Paul McNamara plays the B3 and keys and Danny Bemini (M. Ward, Chris Collingwood of Fountains of Wayne, Martin Sexton) lays down the Moog.
Recorded throughout the pandemic in multiple locations; bass, drums, and live tracking were completed at Spirit House Recording Studio, Long meadow, MA along with Paul's B3 and Miranda's harmonies. Stroetzel and Hennessy recorded most of the guitars, mandolins, and slides at Joel’s studio The Cave in Easthampton, MA. McAulay recorded all percussion tracks at Twigdum Studio in Greenfield, MA, and Hebert did all the vocals in his home studio in Watertown, MA.
It became evident very quickly that this new endeavor was forming into a band, not just another solo project. Hidden Skyline is a regional reference to the Quabbin Reservoir where Hebert grew up and reflects upon how the present can be shaped by the history that lies beneath it.
Causeways is a very personal record with a lot of references to time and space between working through everyday struggles to find serenity. Hebert worked with friend and musician Brodie Black on tightening up lyrical ideas and his wife, Sam Sylvain, contributed lyrically, in both the literal and metaphoric sense.
