On Valentines Day (February 14th, 2023), Datura releases new single "Kind Of Love".
-----
“Her voice a velvety texture between the vintage poise of Nina Simone and modern wink of Amy Winehouse with her piano playing a cross between Regina Spektor’s inventiveness and the flair of Rufus Wainwright. It’s torchy and dramatic, and it drips with wistfulness”

Jessica Pyrdsa artist statement on "Kind Of Love".
"Etta James said she wanted a Sunday Kind of Love. I decided to get a little bit more specific. I started writing a poem 3 years ago. It was the beginning of a manifestation of my *~ideal love~*. On my daily walks, on a drive around the corner, during my day-to-day life, I started finding inspiration in everyday things that spoke LOVE to me.
Many of the concepts I wrote about were not tangible things, but more of a feeling, which is what love is to me.“I want a Sentimental Mood, Rhapsody in Blue, Clair de Lune Kind of Love.”I kept writing this poem for a good part of a year! And to this day, even though the song has now been recorded and “finished”, I am still finding inspiration and continue to write lyrics for it. Maybe there will have to be a Kind of Love pt. II."

Datura, AKA Jessica Pyrdsa, was exposed to the arts at an early age. Born and raised on the east coast, her mother, a piano teacher and singer in their church; her father, a fine art painter-her childhood was filled with the sounds of Chopin and Bachand the smells of incense and oil paint. She started sitting at the piano bench before she could walk. Pyrdsa grew up playing classical music with her mother as her teacher and eventually went to Monmouth University. It was there she began to find her love of jazz, discovering singers like Nina Simone, Etta James and Eartha Kit. She began writing her first songs on the grand piano in the basement of the Great Hall on campus.
In 2010 she moved to Atlanta Georgia to chase down the jazz and blues of the south. It is here where she started to find her voice playing in the local clubs and bars. Searching for something more, she moved to Austin Texas in 2012. Austin gave her the opportunity to explore and push her boundaries playing with a rotating cast of musicians, building her following and honing her craft. In addition to her steady gigs, she kept up a monthly residency at the Historic Scoot Inn with her Piano Lounge series, a yearly Austin Tribute to Tom Waits which Pyrdsa organizes, books and performs in, as well as co-founding Jazz Kween, an all-inclusive music & comedy performance series.
In 2016 she released her debut Self-Titled Album, produced by her americana-honky-tonk-piano playing mentor Charlie Pierce of Choctaw Wildfire and Justin Douglas of King Electric Recording. She released two singles in 2020, "Hotel Lobby" (with an accompanying music video) and "Christmas Card from a Hooker in Minneapolis" (Tom Waits) also produced by Justin Douglas.
American Songwriter described her sound as “Her voice a velvety texture between the vintage poise of Nina Simone and modern wink of Amy Winehouse with her piano playing a cross between Regina Spektor’s inventiveness and the flair of Rufus Wainwright. It’s torchy and dramatic, and it drips with wistfulness”
